What are the means of payment that Mr and Mrs Swiss use most often? A survey recently published by the Swiss National Bank (SNB) showed that cash is still the most popular means of payment.
07.09.2023 –- Around 43% of transactions are paid for with cash. However, it is mainly smaller amounts that are settled in this way.
- Based on the value of transactions, the debit card is the principal means of payment. The debit card proportion by value remains high at 33%, followed by cash at 20%.
- Payment apps are very much on the increase, with the value of such transactions doubling to 8%.
- So it’s hardly surprising that 96% of respondents say they always keep cash on hand for everyday expenses, and they own an average of four different non-cash payment instruments.
- 93% of the respondents are in possession of a debit card.
- And 76% have a credit card.
- Around 68% have a payment app.
